At this point in our trip we were about halfway through our 3 week weddingmoon and had already visited Paris, Barcelona, and Salerno. We got to Salerno just about the same time our wedding photographer, Jeff, and his wife, Kim arrived. It was so nice to be around Americans again. Just being able to have conversations with other people is something Nate and I didn't realize that we take for granted. To be able to sit over breakfast with Jeff and Kim and talk about nothing and anything was such a nice change of pace from not being understood.
Salerno is a harbor city positioned at such a location that it is extremely easy to get to nearby cities both by train and by ferry. The day before our vow ceremony we decided to go on an adventure to the Island of Capri and invited Jeff and Kim along for the fun.
The boat to Capri leaves early in the morning and it takes a few hours of travel time on the water, but the sunrise made it all worth it...

As you go up and around the Amalfi coast you see a landscape unlike anything else. It's unreal. Green-topped mountains peppered with villas (read MANSIONS) give way to rocky cliffs that crumble off into the Sea.

Watching Capri appear in front of the boat is kind of like that scene in the movie, "Count of Monte Cristo" when they pull up to the huge island where the prison is. It looms up in front of you with cliffs that look untouched by time. The natural arches are visible on the left and are one of the main sights of Capri.

Cheesy tourist photo op. We had to do it. Don't judge us. It's our honeymoon.

We took the tram from the port up to the main area of Capri. From which we took a bus up the mountain and across to Anacapri. Then we took a gondola partially up the side of the mountain. Where we got into these rickety ski-lift style chairs (with safety bars that lightly sit on your lap) to ride to the top of Mount Solaro, the highest point on the island.

Did I mention the part about how it's 1932 feet straight down from where my husband is perched?

These next three are ones that Jeff took of Nate and I...

This was Nate's favorite place that we visited in our 3 weeks in Europe. I adore this oh-so-happy shot of him...

By the time we got back to Salerno it was just about sunset. I can't think of a better way to spend (or end) a day.

Amalfi is the first stop on the ferry, and the city the coast is named for...

The next stop is Positano. You may recognize it's name because it's in every Italy calendar and travel photo gallery. It's picturesque, to say the absolute least and looks like something from a James Bond movie.

I can't put into words what it the view from the top is like. You are absolutely and literally struck dumb by it's magnificence. It doesn't even look like you're on Earth anymore. You can see the entire curve of the horizon. You can see huge strips of sunlight on the water and the sunbeams causing them. Barges and cruise ships look like tiny flecks in the Sea and you can see right through the sapphire and turquoise water.

Group shot!

Then we turned the camera on them. This is a shot from our beloved vintage Hasselblad 500C. To see the rest of the photos we took of Jeff & Kim at the top of Capri, jump over to our photography blog.

This is magical. I think I might need to go there.
ReplyDeleteHello! I love your nice clean blog and photos. I'll be digging through yoru archives for more inspiration.
ReplyDeleteI visited capri as a child when my dad (navy) was stationed in Naples, Italy. I really want to go back!
Amazing!
ReplyDeleteThis is all just so freaking gorgeous it is ridiculous. You all must have shot a million pictures. OH... and Nate. Standing on that ledge. Bonkers. I could never get that close. He is a brave, brave man.
ReplyDelete@Ryan Thanks! We did take a lot, but actually not as much as we expected. We liked taking a bit of time off from shooting. And if by brave you mean "CRAZY" then yes, he is. ;)
ReplyDelete@Kathleen Yes! Put it on your bucket list. :)
