Practicing the Art of Gratitude

Do you ever find yourself getting panicked by your life? Your bills. Your inbox. The people waiting on responses from you? The laundry? The fact that you can't find your favorite sports bra? (No? Is that just me then? Seriously I've looked everywhere!) 

I find that anxiety starts to creep up on my when I'm not being very thankful. I love seeing all the gratitude challenges on Facebook and Instagram. They help me to remember that my problems aren't very big problems. 

I think my life is hard? My life where I can pretty much come and go as I want. Where I can comfortably pay my bills and have extra for fun stuff? The life where I am healthy and have insurance and can buy medicine for myself and my family if we need it? The life where I can walk into multiple rooms of my house and turn on clean, safe water? Geez, I'm so spoiled sometimes. I think this life is hard? No. 

Living in poverty is hard. Living in oppression is hard. Living paycheck to paycheck with a family to support is hard. Living under persecution is hard. My life is not hard. So when I start to get myself all worked up over how hard my life is I take a break and start to list out all the things I'm grateful for. Try it! Get a little notebook or start a note on your phone and just start listing. You'd be surprised how much it can change your perspective! I know it sounds simple but it's such a good practice to get into. Let me know how it works for you!
